Edgar J. Goodspeed’s The New Testament: An American Translation (1923) rendered the Greek text into the everyday American English of its day, based on the Westcott-Hort critical Greek text. Verses that do not appear in the oldest manuscripts (e.g. Mark 16:9–20’s disputed ending, John 7:53–8:11) are marked in place rather than silently dropped, matching Goodspeed’s own text.
